KATHMANDU, JUNE 30

A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court against the appointment of 20 constitutional bodies on June 24 by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi moved the apex court on Wednesday demanding that the SC revoke appointment of various constitutional body officials claiming that the president cannot make such appointments without a proper parliamentary hearing.

The writ also demanded the court issue a stay order barring the appointees from performing any duties till the verdict is given on the case.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on recommendation of the Constitutional Council had appointed officials of different constitutional bodies including an election commissioner, chair of Public Service Commission, Commissioner at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and chair of National Inclusion Commission on June 24, bypassing parliamentary hearing.
