KATHMANDU, MARCH 29
WWF Nepal marked Earth Hour 2026 with a series of nationwide activities focused on community engagement, environmental awareness and collective action.
In Kathmandu, WWF Nepal partnered with Meltdown to organise three plastic-free runs on March 18, 25 and 28, attracting more than 500 participants. The initial runs included e-waste collection drives and interactive sessions to promote recycling and environmental awareness, while the final event saw over 300 participants join 3 km and 5 km runs.
The campaign concluded with a mini carnival at Narayanchaur Park featuring art, pledge signing, games and awareness activities aimed at translating public participation into long-term commitment.
Beyond the capital, WWF Nepal organised an 11.4-km run at the Sakhi Fish Sanctuary in Bardiya to highlight the importance of freshwater ecosystems and aquatic biodiversity conservation.
The campaign also saw participation from the private sector, with several restaurants hosting candlelight dinners during Earth Hour. Partnerships with eSewa and Ncell further amplified outreach through digital and social media platforms.
Youth engagement remained a key focus, with eco-club competitions and innovation challenges encouraging students to contribute ideas for sustainable solutions.
