KATHMANDU: A young man was killed when police opened fire on him at Kusunti village of Lalitpur district on Monday.

According to the District Police Office, Prabin Khatri succumbed to bullet injuries after a team of police personnel reached the area to raid his house in suspicion of hiding illegal drugs and arms this afternoon.

Talking to THT Online over the phone, SSP Dinesh Amatya of Metropolitan Police Crime Division confirmed the case.

Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths from MPCD had monitored the suspect at his house from this morning before the incident, according to Chief of the Division.

"Khatri who was on the run open fired with two pistols at the police team and in retaliation the team fired at him, subsequently he scummed to bullet injuries," shared Amatya.

However, Amatya said that the police team are yet to confirm whether the suspect died of police firing.

Police have seized two automatic pistols from the crime scene.

It has been learned that Khatri was involved in a drugs and ammunition trade.
