The opening of Ruslan The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2017 saw an array of refreshing colours, followed by innovative take on traditional fabrics, experiment with different types of silhouettes and layers on April 5 at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu. Furthermore, the sparkle on some of the outfits left the audience all dazzled.

Spectators eagerly waited for the curtains to rise, some way early than the given time. The curiosity for the biggest fashion extravaganza built up as the flashes went off continuously as some of the big names made their entry on the red carpet. And after all that, the show did not compromise on any fashion aspect.

So, the show started slightly, as they call, fashionably late.

The event began on a colourful note — with Anu Shrestha displaying some vibrant hues, meticulously hand painted on a variety of luxurious silk. The upbeat music complemented the high energy on the ramp. Furthermore, the breezy silhouettes of the outfits reflected elegance at ease.

Her second sequence of sarees was again as appealing to the eyes as her first. However, the delicate silk fabric was a little mellifluous to stay still on the models as they posed — it would easily slip off. But, the models, well-trained to handle the situation, pulled off the walk gracefully with poise to envy.

Her second collection Pahiran ma Pahichan received a bigger round of applause. Why wouldn’t it? She revived the handwoven traditional Dhaka fabrics in her designs.

The first day has raised the bar.  Day 2 is another beginning to scale new fashion heights.

The show was exclusive. I liked the LED lights and screen presentation, the stage was brilliantly presented and the lights setup was unique. I had an amazing experience at the  show. I loved designer Mukta Shrestha’s Pahiran ma Pahichan sequence. For me it was the show stealer tonight. It was brilliant. Overall the show has set the bar high

for the fashion industry in Nepal.

The show was a marvellous collaboration of mixture of colours, light settings and beautiful faces. This show was beyond my expectations and I was amazed. I found all the collections of the designers stunning and something pleasantly out of the ordinary. But what really caught my eye tonight was the fabulous amalgamation of Dhaka print into sophisticated dresses by Mukta Shrestha; and the other one was the use of coral hues that perfectly blended into a fairytale gown by Muna Gurung.

The show was breathtaking. The models were full of confidence. Most specifically, Nikita Chandak nailed the ramp. I loved all the collections showcased but my personal favourite was the designs showcased by Mukta Shrestha. Both her collections — Vivid and Pahiran ma Pahichan had the core representation of Nepali ethnicity. The show is definitely getting bigger and better.
