Bold brides, ballet, confident models rule the ramp

A whole lot of artistic designs and glamour unravel on second day

Kathmandu

Ruslan The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2017’s outing on April 6 at Hyatt Regency witnessed a lot of variation and artistic designs. Also, the second day welcomed a lot of celebrity show starters and showstoppers — Priyanka Karki, Swastima Khadka, Subekchya Khadka, Alize Biannic, Neelum Chand, Ahilya Sharma and Reema Bishwokarma. Furthermore, the student designers proved that they have really excelled, not only in terms of their designs but also in terms of the use of fabrics and fittings.

Uma Nemkul started the show with her bridal collection Threads of Joy, which received a great round of applause. Moving away from the traditional colour palette of red for bridal wear, Nemkul incorporated a lot of pastel shades such as blue, rose and pink. The details on the net were eye-catching. Moreover, the collection’s clean and well fitted appearance left a good impression.

BEFORE and AFTER

Dina Shrestha and Jyotsna Shrestha’s collection received mixed reviews. At first the audience seemed a bit confused — traditional props with modern gowns and dresses didn’t seem to blend; however, towards the end of the sequence, the pastel flared skirt saved the day with its elegant appeal.

Talking of surprises Amit Baral’s collection Bold Bride left the audience guessing as to what was coming next. As a bride is usually associated to be shy, the term bold itself was a surprise. The booming music went well with the theme. Each piece from the collection stood out with detailed mirror and hand embroidered crystal work. The flared silhouettes of the skirts made the pieces stand out.

This was followed by Pasang Ghale, Vidisha Lunia and Arjeena Ghimire’s Sculpture, which had a very edgy and futuristic feel. But as they say, some art are difficult to decode, this collection left the crowd unmoved.

Biannic got everyone tapping their toes with her brilliant ballet performance for the opening of Anugraha Adhikari, Deena Shrestha and Sumena Chitrakar’s collection Zinnia. As they say morning shows the day, the outfits were as mind blowing as the opening.

Designer Sweata Acharya too left no stones unturned to amaze the crowd with her beautiful traditional outfits with modern aesthetics.

Pragya Chitrakar’s collection showcased her artistic side — the depiction of her father’s paintings on Nepali raw silk stirred up a lot of emotions.

Sayu Gurung ended the show with a beautiful collection of contemporary outfits — dresses and gowns.

The highlights of the show were the models on this day — they were highly praised for being able to pull off each outfit with grace and confidence.

The four-day event is sponsored by Ruslan in association with Tresemme and powered by Mahindra KUV100, with Silk Air as the airline partner.

The collections and designs showcased today were very elegant, graceful and sophisticated. Today the theme was inspired mostly by the bridal aura. The models looked astounding and pulled off all the looks with great confidence. This is my second time attending the show and it is getting more and

more extravagant.

I am super amazed by today’s show. It was beyond my imagination. I did not feel how the time went by. Everything was well organised, the music was so pumping that I almost felt like dancing. The collections were superb. I must say Uma Nemkul’s Thread of Joy and Amit Baral’s Bold Bride stole the day today.
