Kunal Kapoor is more than just a Bollywood heartthrob. In an exclusive to TGIF he talks with Mannat Shrestha about his visit to Nepal

Kunal Kapoor was in Nepal to visit Sindhupalchowk district and observe CARE Nepal’s emergency response work following the devastating Earthquake in April 2015. He successfully managed to raise funds for the survivors of the earthquake through his crowd funding platform, Ketto .

What brings you to Nepal?

It was for a social cause, I am involved in a crowd funding organisation called Ketto. After hearing about the devastating earthquake in Nepal, not just me but the whole Bollywood fraternity including Varun Dhawan, Diya Mirza, Alia Bhatt and Anushka Sharma, got together and started a fund raiser, where we raised about IRS12 million for the survivors that we donated through CARE Nepal to the affected population. I was here to observe the work being done by CARE Nepal in relief and rehabilitation.

Is entertainment the only responsibility of an Actor?

I genuinely believe as a celebrity you have a certain power. If you can use the power to sell cars and colas, why not use it to create awareness on issues that are important to the society?

So, let’s get to know you better. Who was Kunal Kapoor before the fame? What would he be if he was not in Bollywood?

I am pretty much the same person( laughs), I have had the chance to be in different professions from construction to the share market. My dad told me keep doing things till I find something that would make me say ‘this is where I want to be’.

A fan encounter that completely took you by surprise.

A woman turned up at my gate and insisted she was married to me. I had to call my manager and find out where she was from and make sure she got back to her home safe.

Tell us about your upcoming film

I’m coming up with a new movie ‘Kaun Ketni Pani mein’. The idea was to satire the water shortage that is happening around the world.

Any personal ambitions yet unattained... 

There are lots of them which I can’t list out on a small space. I want to reach out to as many people and connect and help them. I would want to fly around the world and also ask for forgiveness from those

I have hurt.

If there was a movie based on your life which actor would you want to play the role?

I would play the role myself.

Where would you spend a fantasy 24 hours, with no travel restrictions?

I would be in space
