KATHMANDU: Nepalaya, book publication house, has launched an autobiography of former Inspector General of Police Achyut Krishna Kharel amid a special ceremony in Kathmandu, on Saturday.

On the occasion, Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav along with former IGP Kharel and Amar Prahari Pariwar's Binda Adhikari jointly unveiled the book, according to Nepalaya.

Talking to politician Hari Sharma before the ceremony at Nepal Police Club at Exhibition Road, Kharel clarified his reasons to publish the autobiography. He said the book would help younger generation understand the changing political stratosphere of Nepal.

"Nepal underwent various political turmoil -- referendum in 1979, people's movement in 1990s and Maoist conflict in early 2000s. I have tried to share my experience and endurance during this historical political changes earnestly in the book," Kharel, who served as an officer during that time, added.

"Till today, I am the only person in the history of Nepal Police to assume the office twice as chief of the department," Kharel shared. I decided to write the book to clarify why and how it happened, so that others do not have to speculate on my appointment.

He further said revenue generated from the sale of books would be set aside for Amar Prahari Pariwar's kids' welfare.

Politicians, former ministers, former Chief of Army Staff, Nepal Police officers among other high ranking officials graced the event.

Paperback edition of this 380 pages book is priced at Rs 665 and the hardback edition is available at Rs 995 in the market, according to Nepalaya.
