One of the most popular luxury pickups in the world – Toyota Hilux is all set to debut in the Nepali market. After garnering huge success in the global market, Toyota is about to introduce its latest offering — eighth-generation Hilux in the domestic market by mid-September. Well-known for its reliability and durability, the new generation Hilux was globally launched in May.

“We have high expectations with the new generation Hilux as its preceding models have already won the hearts of customers,” said Bibek Balami, Incharge - Sales Planning and Procurement at United Traders Syndicate, authorised distributor of Toyota vehicles. “This new generation pickup is superior to its earlier models in terms of looks, comfort and performance,” he claimed, adding that they aim to sell over 100 units of the premium pickup within the first four to six months of its launch in the Nepali market. According to him, the pickup will be tentatively priced at Rs 7.095 million.

Promoted as a ‘tough pickup,’ the Japanese automaker claims that the eighth-generation Hilux features improved ruggedness as well as better passenger comfort and easier drivability. According to Toyota, the all-new 2016 Hilux was not only built to be tough on all terrains, but was also made to be more occupant focused. The pickup offers an impressive ground clearance of 225mm while it claims to provide the mileage of 13.15 kmpl.

The pickup was completely redesigned, the 2016 Hilux has a sleeker yet more aggressive appearance which conforms to the brand’s current design philosophy. The front facade carries a three-bar chrome grill along with curved headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and circular foglamps.

Powered by the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV inline-four turbo diesel, the new Hilux generates a maximum power of 130 kW at 3,400 rpm and a peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,400 to 2,600 rpm. The new pickup is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and 4WD system.

Compared to its preceding models, the new-generation Hilux is now longer and wider but has a reduced height. It measures 5,350 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,855 mm tall. Despite the added length, the 2016 Hilux retains its previous wheelbase, which measure 3,085 mm. In addition, it is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in 265/65 tyres.

Inside, it claims to offer the comfort like a luxury SUV. The premium pickup is adorned with leather seat and leather steering. It offers ample legroom space, optimised seating position, keyless entry, push start engine, and automatic air conditioner to ensure the comfort of the occupant and passengers. Moreover, new GD engine

ensures the noise reduction optimisation for a pleasant driving experience.
