Kathmandu, January 12

Sellers are seen selling yam in the market targeting the nearing Maghe Sankranti in Lalitpur, today.

Yam is one of the delicacies consumed during  Maghe Sankranti along with khichadi (a traditional dish of rice and various lentils cooked together), chaku (hardened molasses), butter and other delicacies.

The Newars observe this day as Gheu Chaku Sallhu and relish on chaku, yams, meat, sweetmeat made of sesame seeds on the day.
