Quake survivors get relief in Helambu snow

KATHMANDU: Earthquake survivors of Helambu, a mountainous village in Sindhupalchok district in central Nepal, on Thursday received winter relief materials provided to them to combat the chilling cold.

Helambu is a remote village in Sindhupalchok district and is often covered in snow for many winter days. It is a popular destination for trekking among tourists visiting central Nepal.

A United States-based humanitarian organisation Samaritan's Purse had collected winter materials for around 6,000 earthquake-affected families, worth USD 1.5 million, to quake survivors in Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, which are the most affected areas after the earthquakes.

A Nepal Army helicopter had delivered the relief goods to the village from the Capital.

Here are some photos of the village, and the relief distribution programme as captured by our photojournalist Skanda Gautam.
