Top political figures from various political parties, as well as government officials, have cast ballots at polling stations in various districts where they are registered voters in an election held in response to the Gen Z revolution last September.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki voted at the Dhapasi Lower Secondary School Phaiamalchuli Voting Centre in Kathmandu's Constituency-5.
She told reporters what she thought after casting her ballot and how happy she was with the election's enthusiastic conduct. "I have fulfilled my own duty; elections are taking place in the country, and I am extremely happy," she said in response to a question concerning the elections that were taking place under her leadership.
Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari voted in Bhangal, Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu. She had previously been elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai voted at a polling station in Palungtar Municipality, Gorkha District. He filed his candidature this time but later withdrew it.
Madhav Kumar Nepal, co-ordinator of the Nepali Communist Party and former Prime Minister, voted in Gaur Ward-2 in Rautahat District. He's also a candidate.
Kulman Ghising, the president of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, voted at a polling station in Kathmandu Constituency-3. He is a candidate for the same constituency.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal voted in Lalitpur Constituency-3.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane voted today at the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) polling station in Chucchipati. Before voting, Lamichhane spoke briefly with journalists and expressed hope that the election would help the country reach a political resolution. He is running for the House of Representatives from Chitwan Constituency-2.
Similarly, senior RSP leader Balendra (Balen) Shah voted at the Annapurna School polling station in Gairigaun, Tinkune, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9. Shah, the former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is running for Jhapa Constituency-5.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa voted at the Mayurkunda Polling Centre at Maitidevi Temple in Kathmandu. Following his vote, he expressed his thoughts, emphasising that the "mandate" from this election would serve as a framework for governing the country for the next five years. He expressed concern about the possibility of prolonged political instability if the constitution deviates from its intended course.
"This election was critical to realigning the constitution," he stated. "Despite uncertainties about the election's execution, the voting process is proceeding smoothly across the country."
The Nepali Congress has proposed President Thapa as a possible prime minister candidate. He is running for election in Sarlahi Constituency-4.
Similarly, Harkaraj Rai 'Sampang', the chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party, who ran from Sunsari, voted at a polling station in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-18, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.
National Assembly Speaker Narayan Dahal voted at a polling station in Ward-14 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan.
Former Speaker Devraj Ghimire voted in Arjundhara for Jhapa-2. He is a candidate over there.
