1 dead, 6 hurt as jeep plunges 500m in Baitadi
KATHMANDU: A person died and six others sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling in fell below the road in Dilasaini Rural Municipality-3 along the Goluleshwar-Ganna road section of Baitadi district on Monday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Krishna Singh Bista (36) of Marma Rural Municipality-3 in Darchula district and injured as Akbar Mahara, Gomati Mahara, Gita Mahara, all three of Marma Rural Municipality-6, while Merman Singh and Subarna Singh, both Indian nationals.
It has been learnt that the identity of one injured is yet to be established.
According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Ma 1 Ja 233) en route from Latinath of Darchula to Gokuleshwar lost its control and plunged about 500 metres into the Chameliya River in Jharna at 5:30 pm yesterday.
The injured were rushed to the Gokuleshwar-based Primary Health Centre where Bista succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment, while four other injured have been undergoing treatment there and another referred to a Dhangadi-based health facility, informed police.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway and search is on for the absconding jeep driver Deepak Bista, said police.
