KATHMANDU: One person died on the spot and 20 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus turned turtle at Dhakeri of Rapti Sunari Rural Municipality-9 in Banke district this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Niluji Adhikary (35), a permanent resident of Calcutta in Indian State of West Bengal, said police.

The bus (Lu 1 Kha 5909) heading towards Surkhet from Butwal overturned at Dhakeri killing a passenger and injuring others at 2:20 am, said the Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Kafle at the Kohalpur-based Area Police Office. The incident site is at the distance of six kilometres east from Kohalpur.

All the injured have been rushed to Kohalpur Medical College Hospital. One of the injured is said to be in critical condition, informed Kafle.

Police have assumed overspeeding as the cause of the accident.

It has been learned that most of the passengers were Indian labourers who travelled to Nepal on a daily basis to work at the Mid-Western University in Surkhet.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the driver, Shiva Raj Pokharel (27) of Pyuthan to take necessary action.
