KATHMANDU: A person died and two others sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident in Ekdara Rural Municipality-4 of Mahottari district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Prakaniya Devi (38), wife of Punya Dev Raya, and injured as Abhiram Pandey (12) and Amit Pandey (10), all local residents.

According to police, the incident occurred when the motorcycle (Ja 8 Pa 4860) en route from the Indian state of Bihar to Halkori of Mahottari collided head-on with the bicycle ridden by the Pandey duo in Halkori this morning, injuring the pillion rider Prakaniya Devi and bicycle riders.

The injured were rushed to the Jaleshwar-based District Hospital, however, Prakaniya Devi breathed her last on the way to the hospital.

Pandey duo are undergoing treatment at the hospital and are in normal condition, informed the District Police Office, Mahottari.

It has been learnt that the motorcycle rider, brother-in-law of the deceased, has fled the incident site.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway and search is on for the absconding motorcyclist, said police.
