1 killed, 15 injured in microbus-container carrier collision

DAMAULI: A girl died and 15 others sustained injuries in a microbus and container carrier collision in Byas Municipality-12 along the Dumre-Damauli road section of Prithvi Highway in Tanahun district, on Monday.

Police have identified the deceased as Sabina Rai (19) of Boksing Municipality in Bhojpur, currently working as a waiter at Nachau Rodhi Ghar in Mitranagar of Kathmandu.

In the incident, Abhinash BK (35) of Pokhara Metropolitan City-19; Sunil Baral (32), Hum Bahadur Gurung (37), Pradip Magar (30), Saroj Kumar Shrestha (21), Minmar Chhiring (38), Surya Bahadur Thapa (25), Sanju Ghimire (45), Sharmila BK (19), Shova BK (36), Bonu Gaudel (30), all residents of Pokhara Metropolitan City-32 were injured. Similarly, Karma Kirti (37), Hira Thapa (40), Amrit Tamang (28), and Miman Gurung (28), all of Pokhara Metropolitan City-9 also sustained injuries in the accident.

According to police, the incident occurred when the microbus (Ba 2 Kha 1838) en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara collided with a container carrier (Ba 4 Kha 1124) in Chhirkane at around 7:30 am today, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Malla, Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Tanahun.

Critically injured Sabina breathed her last at around 9:30 am while undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital, Pokhara while another critically injured passenger Abhinash has been undergoing treatment at Pokhara-based Metrocity Hospital.

Among the remaining injured, 11 are undergoing treatment at Ratnahari Hospital in Damauli and four at Laxmi Hospital in Dumre, informed DSP Malla.

The deceased and all the other injured passengers were travelling in the microbus.

Meanwhile, police have detained drivers of both vehicles for further investigation.
