1 dead, 6 hurt as bus plunges 300m onto Sunkoshi riverbank in Sindhuli
KATHMANDU: A person died on the spot and six others sustained critical injuries when a bus they were travelling on fell below the road in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-7 in Sindhuli district today.
Police identified the deceased as Ravi Bhandari (20) of Sunkoshi-5, a passenger aboard the bus.
The injured include the bus driver, his assistant Raj Kumar Lama of Sindhupalchok and others aboard the vehicle.
According to Assistant Sub Inspector of Police (ASI) Rabindra Khadka at Ratomato-based Area Police Office (APO), a passenger bus (Na 6 Kha 912) heading to Kathmandu from Marinkhola veered off the road and plunged about 300 metres onto Sunkoshi riverbank killing a passenger and injuring others, at Riththebhir in Mulkot, at around 10:30 am today.
The bus was carrying a total of eight persons including the bus driver and his assistant, said ASI Khadka who led a joint rescue team deployed from the APO and Khurkot-based police post.
Meanwhile, police have rescued the survivors from the wrecked vehicle and sent them to a health institution in Kathmandu. Several fragments of wreckage have been sighted at the incident site, said police.
