At least 10 people were injured when a passenger bus en route to Bhittamod, Mahottari from Kathmandu met with an accident in Chandrapur Municipality, Rautahat, early Monday morning.
According to the District Traffic Office, the accident occurred around 4:30 am along the East-West Highway near Chandrapur Municipality–2. The bus (Ba. Pra. 01–006 Kha 5216) veered off the road and fell about seven feet to the south side after the driver lost control.
A joint rescue team from the Area Police Office, Chandranigahapur and the local traffic office reached the site and sent the injured to nearby hospitals in Chandrapur for treatment. Police said the condition of the injured is stable.
The injured have been identified as Rekha Devi (44), Jahdevi Jha (22), and Bisukumar Patel (11) from Sitamarhi, Bihar, India; Mohammad Amjal (26) and Mohammad Okil from Darbhanga, Bihar; Nargis Khatun (38) and her 2-year-old son Ayas Pratik; Anushka Nigam (23) from Sirishwarnath-1, Dhanusha; Santoshi Thakur (35) from Janakpur; and Poonam Thakur (43) from Jaleshwar Municipality-4.
Out of the 25 passengers on board, 10 sustained injuries.
Police said the driver fled the scene after the accident and that a search operation is underway.
