11 Birgunj blast victims airlifted to Kathmandu
Birgunj, January 31:
Eleven of those injured in yesterday’s blasts outside the venue of seven-party alliance joint mass meeting in Birgunj have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Those sent to Kathmandu for treatment include: Ram Prabesh Yadav of Jayanagar; Raj Kumar Patel, Chandrika Yadav, Biga Raut, Sahev Prasad Yadav, Ramashish Roy Yadav and Kishori Yadav of Udayapurghurmi; Birendra Mahatho Tharu of Bagwanna; Feroz Alam of Pipariya; Satya Narayan Rauniyar of Bahuari and Krishna Khanal of Simra, said Superintendent of Police Saurav Bikram Rana. Four others — Bimala Karki, Arati Yadav, Gajananda Yadav and Munna Prasad Yadav — had been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment last night.
Nine others injured in explosions at different places are undergoing treatment
at the Narayani hospital and others, with minor injuries, were sent home after treatment, SP Rana added.
Parsa Chief District Officer Bhola Prasad Shivakoti, who was also injured in the incident, has returned home.
Meanwhile today, an unidentified group detonated a bomb in the house of Ramesh Rijal in Birgunj sub-metropolitan city-9.
Rijal is a former MP of the Nepali Congress.
No headway in blast probe:
BIRGUNJ: Police were yet to arrest those involved in Wednesday’s blast outside Narayani Stadium.
Police said their investigations have been hampered. as seven different armed groups had taken the responsibility for the blasts.
Armed groups including Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Goit), Janatantrik Mukti Morcha (Jwala), Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Prithvi), Samyukta Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha, Tarai Mukti Morcha, Madhesi Mukti Tigers called journalists and owned up the blast. Police said its preliminary investigation had found all the armed organisations were successful in ushering in their cadres into the stadium with the help of political parties, volunteers and press passes. However, police claimed nobody had entered the stadium with explosives. — HNS
