12 injured in clashes
Sindhupalchowk, July 15:
Over 12 persons, including cadres of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Nepali Congress and the pro-Maoist Young Communist League (YCL), were injured in clashes today.
Cadres of the Nepali Congress and the RPP had quarrelled over the construction of a road that was supposed to connect Baguwa of Shikharpur VDC-6 with Bangaon of the same VDC.
YCL cadres reached the site to settle the dispute as neither side was willing to yield. The YCL cadres attacked both the sides.
The warring sides got united and retaliated, leaving three YCL cadres including YCL area in-charge Subhas injured.
RPP constituency no.3 committee secretary Phanindra Dahal, RPP cadres Batarwal Shrestha, Tanka Shrestha, Phanindra Dahal of Shikharpur VDC 8, Gopal Shrestha, Rajkumar Shrestha, Kanchha Shrestha and Phanindra Chouhan and Surya Sapkota of Shikharpur VDC 6 were seriously injured in the YCL attack.
A local, Prakash Dahal, said Shanker Shrestha, Gopal Shrestha and Batarwal Shrestha have been taken to Kathmandu for treatment. The rest are being treated at the Melamchi primary health post.
The two warring sides later lodged a joint complaint at the Melamchi area police office saying that the YCL men attacked them without any reason, said inspector at the APO Roshan Kumar Sijapati. While locals alleged that police were dragging their heels in the case, inspector Sijapati said investigation will take its course.
Meanwhile, YCL area in-charge Subhas accused the locals of turning on them suddenly and attacking him and other cadres of the YCL.
He also denied that the YCL initiated the violence.
