KATHMANDU, AUGUST 7

Thirteen individuals from Jajarkot district have gone missing following a flash flood that struck the Harsil area of Uttarkashi in India's Uttarakhand State on Tuesday afternoon.

All the missing persons are residents of Ward No. 2 in Kushe Rural Municipality, Jajarkot. In a press release issued on Thursday, Chairperson of Kushe Rural Municipality, Hari Chandra Basnet, stated that the individuals had travelled to India for employment and have remained out of contact since the incident.

"These 13 individuals have not been in touch with their families since the flood," Basnet said, adding that residents from other wards of the municipality are also reported missing in the affected area.

Chairperson Basnet has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate efforts to locate the missing persons.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Jajarkot, Mekh Bahadur Mangrati, confirmed that Kushe Rural Municipality had reported the disappearance of several locals due to the flash flood.

"I have issued a circular to all local levels and police posts in the district, requesting them to collect the names of those from Jajarkot who are missing in the Harsil area. The Home Ministry has also been informed of the situation," CDO Mangrati said.
