KATHMANDU, AUGUST 7
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli emphasized that sustainable infrastructure, robust connectivity, and seamless transit are essential pillars for fostering growth, resilience, and hope in landlocked developing countries (LLDCs).
He noted that this vision is further reinforced by the Awaza Programme of Action.
He made these remarks while addressing a High-Level Thematic Roundtable on "Building Sustainable Infrastructure, Strengthening Connectivity, and Promoting Unfettered Transit Systems for Landlocked Developing Countries" held in Awaza, Turkmenistan, today.
Describing these elements as the "lifeline" of LLDCs, PM Oli stated, "They form the backbone of economic transformation and are indispensable for enhancing our global competitiveness."
"As we enter the next decade of action, let us renew our collective resolve to physically, digitally, and economically connect LLDCs to global opportunities. Let us treat infrastructure, connectivity, and transit as urgent priorities for equity, inclusion, and shared prosperity," the Prime Minister urged.
He further highlighted the structural challenges faced by LLDCs, including lack of sea access, geographical remoteness from global markets, high trade costs, delayed transit procedures, limited connectivity, and fragile infrastructure. "This platform offers the best opportunity to discuss these persistent challenges and to explore innovative solutions," he added.
"To overcome these obstacles, we must invest in integrated, climate-resilient infrastructure that connects regions. We must leverage digital technologies to unlock new opportunities, and establish seamless transit systems that are reliable, efficient, and predictable. Customs procedures must be simplified, harmonized, and modernized," the Prime Minister elaborated.
According to PM Oli, it is time to fulfill the promises made and build a future in which no nation is left behind.
Nepal's Commitment to Seamless Transit and Connectivity
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli also shared Nepal's national vision of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali." To realize this aspiration, he said Nepal has prioritized sustainable infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and seamless transit systems to support durable and accelerated economic growth.
He informed the global community that Nepal is actively expanding and strengthening cross-border linkages to ensure smooth and uninterrupted transit and trade.
Nepal, he affirmed, is committed to deepening partnerships with neighboring countries and beyond, in the spirit of economic cooperation, regional integration, and shared progress.
