Thirteen people were killed and 20 injured when a bus carrying 33 passengers veered off the road and fell some 300 metres at Beldanda in Sunapati Rural Municipality, Ramechhap, today. The bus was on its way to Kathmandu from Hiledevi in Suapati.

According to police, nine passengers died on the spot, whereas four succumbed to their injuries in hospital. So far, nine of the deceased have been identified: Thula Tamang, Sanju Ale, Khadga Bahadur BK, Bipana Tamang, and Samarita Tamang of Ramechhap's Sunapati, Shubhalaxmi Manandhar of Mandandeupur Municipality, Kumal Tamang of Roshi Rural Municipality, and Kul Bahadur BK and Sudip Gajmer of Panchkhal Municipality in Kavre. The injured are undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital and in Kathmandu.

"Four of the 20 injured were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment as their condition was critical," said Ramechhap police chief Raj Kumar Thin.

A police team from Lubhughat Police Post and locals had reached the site first for rescue. Police suspect overspeeding caused the accident.
