13th century idols found in Jumla

JUMLA: Idols believed to have been crafted in the 13th century have been found nearby Dhobighat, Kanakasundari VDC-7 of Jumla district.

Five ancient idols were detected while digging out for the foundation of a dharmashala (rest house) being constructed to provide shelter to internal and external tourists coming to the Kanakasundari Goddess Temple.

The idols found during excavation seem to be linked with Malla-era civilisation of the 13th century, said culture expert and history informant Ram Chandra Acharya of Karnali.

The idols found are of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Buddha and bull, said Chairperson of Temple Management Committee Nar Bahadur Rawat.

One of the idols found is beyond recognition; so it is difficult to identify what the idol is about, he added.
