14 tonnes of maize seeds distributed in Lamjung
LAMJUNG: District Agriculture Development Office in Lamjung has distributed 14 tonnes of maize seeds to farmers at 50 percent subsidy this year.
According to the Chief at District Agriculture Development Office, and senior agriculture development officer, Krishna Bhadra Adhikari, the farmers in the district have been provided with Composite, Arun-2 and Manakamana-3 varieties of seeds.
Adhikari informed, "Last year, 28 tonnes of maize seeds had been distributed at 75 percent subsidy, whereas this year 14 tonnes have been distributed at 50 percent subsidy. The distribution is at its final stage."
Three out of eight local levels in Lamjung — Kawholasothar, Maryangdi and Dordi Rural Municipalities — did not send their requests for the seeds, according to him. These local levels have distributed the seeds to the farmers from their internal budget.
Farming of maize is done majorly in Sundarbazaar and Rainas Municipalities of the district, where the consumption of maize seeds are also high.
