14,054,482 voters for local polls

Kathmandu, April 2

The Election Commission has finalised the voter list for the local level polls slated for May 14.

The EC said 14,054,482 voters, who turned 18 years on February 20 this year and registered their names with photos in election offices are eligible to vote in the upcoming civic polls.

Out of the total eligible voters, 7,069,714 are males and 6,984,625 females. As many as 143 belong to the third gender. The EC said Morang district has 563,870 eligible voters, the highest in the country. Manang, on the other hand, has only 5,095 voters. In Kathmandu district, 559,400 voters are eligible to cast votes.

The EC said it started printing voter lists and voter identity cards this evening. The printing is being done on the premises of Election Commission Office under tight security.  The commission said at least three sets of voters’ lists are needed.

Spokesperson for the EC Surya Prasad Sharma said contractors had brought nine printing presses to the EC premises and Armed Police Force was providing tight security.

The EC has been printing ballot papers under security cover of Nepali Army. “We have sent design of ballot papers of 60 districts to Janak Education Materials Centre,” said Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal.

He said JEMC would complete printing of ballot papers for all 75 districts within the next two weeks.
