17 polling stations highly sensitive

Out of 31 polling stations in East Rukum, the government has identified 17 as highly sensitive, 12 as sensitive and 2 as normal, said East Rukum Chief District Officer Bhupendera Sapkota.

He said the police had been deployed in areas of the district. “We want to ensure that people’s voting rights are protected. We want no casualties during the polls,” he said. The government has deployed 281 personnel from Armed Police Force, 290 personnel from Nepali Army, 255 personnel from Nepal Police. Likewise, 28 bomb disposal teams, 286 temporary police, and 341 civil servants have been deployed for the elections.

The local administration said Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party, difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions were the challenge the security personnel would have to deal with.

According to CDO Sapkota rainfall or snowfall could pose a challenge on the election day.
