Security at bridges
KATHMANDU: The Central Security Committee formed under the Ministry of Home Affairs met on Sunday to review the Saptari incident and deteriorating security situation in the Tarai districts.
Home Minister Shakti Basnet said the committee discussed highway security but did not take any decision. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs Laxmi Prasad Dhakal said the committee’s discussion focused on protecting bridges across the East West Highway.
When asked if the government was going to deploy more security forces in the Tarai, Dhakal said, “Bridges will be protected.” He said the committee was also of the view that those targeting the bridges on the highway were ruining their own future.
The committee also reviewed the reasons for the obstruction on the highway.
