RATNANAGAR: Two girls who were in critical condition after drowning in a pond while swimming in Madi of Chitwan district died during treatment on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Deepika Sunar (7) and Deepsikha Pariyar(12) of  Ramrajyapur in Madi Municipality-6.

The incident occurred when both the girls had gone for a picnic with their friends yesterday, said police.

According to police, Sunar was rushed to the Chitwan Medical College and Pariyar to a local health facility. However, both of them breathed their last while receiving treatment.

The bodies have been sent to the Bharatpur Hospital for post mortem.
