2 dead, 8 hurt as minibus rams microbus in Tanahun

DAMAULI: Two persons died and eight others sustained injuries after the microbus they were travelling on collided with a minibus in Myagde Rural Municipality-4 of Tanahun district this morning.

Police have identified the deceased as Chija Kumari Batas (50) and Saraswati Kunwar (35) of Byas Municipality-4 of Tanahun. The injured have been identified as microbus driver Tul Bahadur BK, Sabila Khan Namuk Miya, Chandra Bhandari, Bindu Maya Thapa, all the residentgs of Byas Municipality-2, Kamala Sura of Damauli, and Satyakala Neupane of Myagde Rural Municipality-3. All of them are passengers of the microbus.

According to police, the incident occurred when the minibus (Lu 1 Kha 4194) en route from Pokhara to Damauli along the Prithvi Highway collided head-on with the microbus (Ba 3 Kha 4042) at Manahari in Damauli-Khairenitar road section today.

Among the injured, six are being treated at Pokhara-based Manipal Teaching Hospital while two others have been undergoing treatment at the Gandaki Hospital, informed district police.

The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyamu Aryal at the District Police Office.

Meanwhile, the driver of the minibus has been detained for further investigation, police informed.
