2 killed, 1 missing as jeep plunges into Bheri in Rukum

KATHMANDU: At least two persons, including a minor, were killed and one went missing after a passenger jeep fell down the road and plunged into the Bheri River in Rukum district on Friday.

As many as 11 others have sustained injuries in the incident at Peepalchaur of Aathbiskot Municipality, according Inspector Thaman Bahadur Rajaili at the District Police Office.

The victims have been identified as Sirjan Budha (1) of Chaurhajari, Rukum, and Kum Bahadur Basnet of neighbouring Jajarkot district. They died on the spot, police said.

According to preliminary information, the jeep (Ga 1 Ja 206) had left for Chisapani in Rukum from Aathbiskot when it met with the accident this afternoon.

The incident site lies along a recently opened track in rough terrain.

Police had received information about the fatal accident at around 3:00 pm, according to Inspector Rajaili. Security personnel have been deployed for rescue.

Police have launched a search operation for the missing person.

The injured have been sent to the Jajarkot District Hospital for treatment, police said.
