23 Assembly members take oath of office
Kathmandu, July 7:
Twenty-three out of 26 Constituent Assembly members, who were recently nominated by the Council of Ministers, took the oath of office and secrecy today.
The seniormost CA member, Kul Bahadur Gurung, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 23 members.
The recently-nominated CA members are: Indra Maya Gurung, Kamala Pant, Chandra Lal Meche, Gagat Bahadur Tajpuriya, Jagya Bahadur Shahi, Dabal Bahadur Shah, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Nima Lama, Nilambar Acharya, Padma Jyoti, Pasang Sherpa, Bhagwati Chaudhari, Shila Katila and Bhupendra Chaudhari. Mahantha Thakur, Mahesh Chaudhari, Ekbal Ahmad Saha, Rajendra Kumar Khetan, Radheshyam Adhikari, Bishow Nath Upadhayaya, Sher Bahadur Pahari, Shyam Sundar Gupta, Sabina Baram, Sushil Chandra Amatya, Hari Lal Thapamagar and Hari Rokka are also the newly-nominated CA members. Bishwo Nath Upadhyaya, Padma Jyoti and Dabal Bahadur Shah did not take part in the ceremony, according to spokesperson for the Parliament Secretariat Mukunda Sharma. Upadhyaya is not well, while the other newly-nominated CA members are out of station.
Meanwhile, the legislative session of the Constituent Assembly was postponed for the 10th consecutive day today.
Since the leaders could not work a way out of the prevailing deadlock, seniormost CA member Kul Bahadur Gurung postponed the session till tomorrow afternoon, citing Clause 8 (3) of the Legislature-Parliament Regulation 2063. This is the third time the CA session has been postponed by issuing a notice. CA members returned home after waiting for five hours.
