Less than 10 per cent of contestants are women
KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 12
The Election Commission today distributed election symbols to all the candidates who are contesting parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for November 20.
According to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel, 2,412 candidates, including 2,187 men and 225 women, are contesting HoR election under the first-pastthe-post election system and 3,224 candidates, including 1,943 men, 280 women, and one other are in fray for provincial assemblies' seats under the FPTP election system.
November 20 elections will elect 165 HoR members and 330 PA members under the FPTP election system.
Of the 2,531 candidates who had filed nomination papers for HoR elections, 119 withdrew their candidacies, whereas of the 3,481candidates who had filed nomination papers for provincial assembly seats, 257 withdrew their candidacies.
The EC has published the final list of candidates that are in the election fray.
The election code of conduct allows candidates to carry out major election campaigns only 17 days before the election date.
This decision was taken with the objective of reducing poll expenditure.
