248 lives lost to war in west in one year

During last year, 248 persons have been killed while 338 have been detained by both the government and Maoists in this far-western region of the country.

From 17th Paush 2058 to 17th Paush 2060, reports say that 251 persons have been killed, detained and abducted by anti-government forces whereas 515 such incidents have been suppressed during the insurgency, according to the Informal Sector Service Sector (INSEC) report released at a press conference here today.

INSEC representatives said 136 persons have been abducted.

The Maoists are more guilty of violating human rights than is the government.

According to tentative figures, Kailai district tops the list of places where human rights violations have occurred the most. At least 76 persons have been killed in Kailali district alone.

Similarly, 40 were killed in

Kanchanpur, 21 in Dadeldhura, 26 in Baitadi, 18 in Bajhang, 25 in Achham, 10 in Bajura, 12 in Darchula and 20 in Doti during the last one-year period of

insurgency.
