KATHMANDU, JANUARY 14

Sowers Action, Hong Kong, with local partner for Nepal, Volunteer Corps Nepal, has supported flood victims in Helambu Rural Municipality, with shelters to 25 most affected households.

The flash flood that occurred on June 15 and July 31 last year had damaged 317 houses in the rural municipality. Sowers Action had then collaborated with VCN for an emergency response to flood immediately after the disaster.

Following the response, a recovery project was initiated straightaway under which 25 houses have been constructed in wards 3, 4 and 7.

Along with this, Cash for Work scheme was also introduced by the project, where the affected population would work in house construction and get paid for their work.

Moreover, 125 households, including the 25 families, were provided with agricultural toolkit and high quality seeds of four different vegetables, to help them revive their agricultural activities, said VCN in a press release.

A handover ceremony was held on January 12, where the 25 beneficiaries received the house from Sowers Action and VCN.

Similarly, 125 household were supported with agricultural input during the same ceremony.

Former Information and Communications Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet and patron of VCN Kumar Gurung, among others, were present during the event. VCN President Deepak Chapagain expressed his happiness on being able to reduce the pain of the affected people. He articulated his wish of touching more lives through similar work in coming days.
