KATHMANDU, AUGUST 3
Nepal Police has apprehended a total of 2,635 fugitive defendants during the month of Ashad in the fiscal year 2080/081, according to official data.
The operations, aimed at enforcing court judgments, also resulted in the collection of Rs 11 crore 51 lakh 18 thousand 991 in fines nationwide.
The highest number of arrests was recorded in Madhesh Province with 681 fugitives, followed by Koshi Province (553), Lumbini Province (344), Bagmati Province (193), Gandaki Province (157), Karnali Province (100), and Sudurpaschim Province (21).
Meanwhile, 554 fugitives were arrested in Kathmandu valley alone.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) alone apprehended 14 individuals during the same period.
In terms of fines collected, Kathmandu Valley topped the list with Rs 5.90 crore, while other provinces contributed varying amounts, led by Koshi with over Rs 1.06 crore.
Additionally, courts enforced a combined 716 years, 4 months, and 7 days of prison sentences against convicted fugitives during the month-long crackdown.
The figures underscore the Nepal Police's commitment to ensuring the execution of court judgments and holding individuals accountable for their past actions.
