Victim had gone missing while bathing under the influence of alcohol in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 3

The body of an Indian national, who had gone missing after drowning in the Bagmati River, was recovered from an irrigation canal in Gujara Municipality on Sunday morning, authorities confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar Singh (30), a resident of Gram Panchayat Pachhaura-2, Khagaria district, Bihar, India. According to police, Singh had gone to bathe in the Bagmati River at Nunthar, Chandrapur Municipality-1, around 2:40 PM on Saturday after consuming alcohol. He drowned and went missing shortly after entering the water.

Following the incident, a joint rescue team from the Armed Police Force (APF) No. 11 Battalion Disaster Response Unit, led by DSP Rajendra Bahadur Basnet from APF Base Santapur and Inspector Rupesh Jha from the Area Police Office Chandrapur, conducted a search operation. The body was recovered at 10:25 AM on Sunday from the Bagmati irrigation canal near Kurmi Tole, Palttuwa, in Gujara Municipality-7, the Rautahat District Police Office said.

Following identification by the victim's relatives, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination at Chandranigahapur Health Office before being handed over to the family, DSP Deepak Kumar Rai stated
