Contraband hidden in secret truck compartment; police intercepted vehicle based on tip-off

Nepal Police on Saturday arrested an Indian national with 671 kilograms and 600 grams of marijuana from Chitwan district.

The arrestee has been identified as Sheikh Sabil Akhtar, 37, a resident of Turkauliya, East Champaran District, Bihar, India.

According to Chitwan Police, acting on a special tip-off, a team from the District Police Office stopped an Indian container truck with registration number UP-42T-3921 for a security check near Lothar Bridge in Rapti Municipality–10 at around 4:00 am. The truck was en route from Chitwan to Makawanpur.

During the inspection, police found 43 packets of marijuana-totalling 671 kilograms and 600 grams-hidden inside a false compartment in the driver's cabin.

Following the seizure, both the driver and the truck were taken into custody.

Police said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
