29 protesters held
POKHARA: Police in Kaski on Monday detained 29 bandh enforcers. They were held from different places of Pokhara and Lekhnath for attempting to stop vehicular movements and force the shops to down their shutters on Monday, the second day of Gandak Bandh called by Tamuwan Joint Struggle Committee.
The committee is seeking a separate Tamuwan province. Among the detainees are Gopal Gurung, Khadga Bahadur Gurung, Narayan Gurung, Deviraj Gurung and Hitkaji Gurung of the committee. Meanwhile, despite the bandh, the business fraternity of Pokhara today took out a motorbike rally to defy the bandh.
The rally passed through different parts of the city before concluding in a meeting. Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairperson Bindu Kumar Thapa stressed the need to stop the bandh culture for good. “As such forms of protest results in huge loss to the country, the trend should be stopped,” said Thapa.
