2nd Besisahar Municipality meeting aims to protect historical area

LAMJUNG: Besisahar Municipality has decided through their second municipality meeting to find an alternative for the Besisahar section of the highway to reach Manang district headquarter Chame via Dumre-Besisahar road.

The expansion of road would destroy more than 500 houses, property worth over Rs 20 billion, along with the historically significant area of Besisahar.

The meeting of the municipality has thus drawn the conclusion that an alternate way must be identified to protect and preserve the historical place.

It has been decided by the meeting to send formal requests to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Department of Roads, and Department of Urban Development drawing their attention to the matter.

Laxmi Devi Adhikari, Deputy Mayor at Besisahar Municipality, stated that according to the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, the municipality meeting should take place twice annually in order to make the activities of the municipality more effective and to develop necessary acts, laws, regulations and guidelines to strengthen local governance.

The municipality meeting has passed 10 proposals and taken important decisions related to the income and expenditure statement for the fiscal year 2074/75, endorsements regarding the decisions, passing the blue prints of houses, among others.

Mayor of the Municipality Guman Singh Aryal, Deputy Mayor Laxmi Adhikari, Ward Chairs Bhoj Bahadur Rimal, Bal Ram Shrestha, Pavitra Rana, Surya Kumar Shrestha, other members of the Municipality shared their thoughts during the meeting. The meeting was facilitated by Chief Administrative Officer Rajeshwor Silwal.
