3 dead, 3 missing as landslides hit western Baglung

BAGLUNG: As many as three persons have been killed and three others have gone missing after they were buried under landslides in different locations of Baglung district on Thursday night.

According to police, two persons died and two other missing after their home was buried under the landslide in Bahungaun of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-2.

The deceased have been identified as Nandakali Chhantyal (63) and her daughter-in-law Bindu Chhantyal (22) and missing as Chhantyal's husband Maniman Chhantyal (68) and their daughter Geeta Chhantyal (18).

Police are continuing their effort to recover the bodies from the debris and the search is on for the missing, informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandra Kuber Khapung, the district Police Chief.

Likewise, a 65-year-old woman, mother of local Lal bahadur Sinjali, has gone missing after a landslide hit in Huldi in the rural municipality.

In a separate incident, Om Bahadur BK (54) of Dhorpatan Municipality-5 was killed when the house was buried under the landslip debris. However, his wife and son managed to reach to the safety, said  Police.

According to SP Khapung, the torrential rains have triggered multiple landslides, especially in the western part of the district.

In some incident sites locals themselves are involved in rescue operations before the police personnel could reach the site.
