3 suspected Indian criminals held from Gaur
RAUTAHAT: Three Indian nationals have been arrested from Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat, in suspicion of their involvement in criminal activities.
They had been staying in a hotel in the Nepali side for some time.
Acting on a tip off, a team of security personnel in civvies raided the hotel on Monday evening and took Dharmendra Kumar of Basbariya, Sitamadi; Kunal Kumar Yadav of Mahanpur, Sitamadi and Dhiraj Kumar Jaisawal of Bairganiya in their custody, police said.
They allegedly were involved in criminal activities in the Indian side and had come to Nepal to take shelter and dodge the Indian law enforcement agencies.
Nepal Police said no evidence of their involvement in criminal activities in Nepal was found yet.
Further investigation is underway and the India police have been informed about the arrest of suspects, according to Superintendent of Police Sanubabu Thapaliya.
"If they are not found to be involved in crime in Nepal, they could be handed over to the Indian authorities," he said. There is no extradition treaty in place between Nepal and India, however.
It has been learnt that the trio have requested the Nepal Police not to hand over them to the Indian police.
