KATHMANDU, APRIL 23

At least 30 people lost their lives in around 900 disaster-related incidents across the country during the month of Chait (March 14–April 13), police said.

Among the deceased were 16 men, 10 women and four children. The incidents included fires, storms, lightning and snowfall. A total of 222 people were injured during the period, according to Nepal Police.

Property damage was also significant, with 191 houses, 117 animal sheds and three government offices affected. Additionally, 529 livestock perished. The total estimated loss has been put at Rs 337.26 million.

Police said 143 people were displaced due to the disasters.

Province-wise breakdown: 272 incidents were reported in Koshi, 136 in Madhesh, 85 in Bagmati (including 39 in the Kathmandu Valley), 95 in Gandaki, 129 in Lumbini, 57 in Karnali and 93 in Sudurpashchim.

Police Spokesperson Avi Narayan Kafle said 4,841 police personnel were mobilised for disaster response during the period.
