The mayoral race in Bharatpur metropolis is one of the most avidly watched and much talked about local level election mainly because it is being contested by Renu Dahal, the daughter of CPN- MC supremo, and is the consensus candidate of the ruling alliance.

Although, she is leading the fray and will mostly likely be re-elected, poll-watchers still have a long wait as 31,528 votes still have to be counted in Bharatpur metropolis before the final election result.

So far, 96,311 votes have been counted, according to the office of the chief returning officer. With this, the vote count has been over from ward 1 to 20 in the metropolis.

So far, Renu Dahal is leading with 37,928 votes with her nearest rival Bijay Subedi of CPN-UML garnering 29,633 votes.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Jagannath Poudel has received 12,463 votes.

Chitrasen Adhikari from Nepali Congress is leading the deputy mayoral post by a wide margin of 16,678 votes.His nearest rival Himala Gurung has collected only 23,443 votes.

Currently, vote count is being held Ward No 21 and 22. A total of 127,839 votes were cast in Bharatpur metropolis.
