334 candidates lose security deposit

The second phase of civic polls held in Biratnagar Metropolitan City saw 334 candidates lose their security deposit.
Of the 702 candidates who had contested the polls for various posts, including mayor, deputy mayor, ward chair and ward members, 334 forfeited their deposit amount.
Regional Election Office Biratnagar said the security deposit of 334 candidates was seized after they failed to earn 10 per cent of the total votes cast.
Of the 14 candidates who had contested for the post of mayor, 11 lost their security deposit except candidates of the NC, CPN-UML and Federal Socialist Forum. The security deposit of mayoral candidates, including Shiva Prasad Adhikari, Ganeshraj Bista, Tara Bahadur Tamang, Pushpa Narayan Pradahan and Gopal Prasad Giri was seized.
Of the 11 candidates who fought for the post of deputy mayor, eight lost their security deposit.
As many as 702 candidates were in the fray for 97 posts in the metropolis. Ward-wise, the NC’s ward chair candidate, Dalit member, and open candidate lost their security in Ward No 17. The security deposit of the UML ward chair candidate was seized at Ward No 18. CPN-MC’s ward chair candidates and other members lost their deposit in all wards except Ward Nos 6 and 15. Almost all of RPP’s candidates lost their deposit.
