34 student activists freed in Kaski
Pokhara, February 12:
The Kaski district administration office today released 34 students arrested during the pre-poll demonstrartions against the municipal polls even as the agitating students called an educational strike in the district today demanding their release.
All the educational institutes in the district remained closed due to the strike called by four agitating student unions.
The district administration released all 34 students on the premises of the Kaski district court.
In Lekhnath municipality, police arrested seven activists from the main entrance of the municipality office where they were staging a sit-in to ban the entry of the newly elected mayor Hari Bahadur Harijan and deputy mayor Dinesh Bahadur Ranabhat into the office. The administration however released them later in the evening.
The demonstrators had padlocked the office rooms of the mayor and the deputy mayor before staging the sit-in. Police however broke the lock-out later.
A report from Tanahu said the district administration released today six activists who were arrested from campaign against the municipal polls before the February 8 elections. Similarly, the Gorkha district administration freed five political prisoners yesterday.
