SINJA, APRIL 4

As many as 35 houses were destroyed in a fire that erupted in Tila Rural Municipality-9 of Jumla district, on Sunday.

The houses located at Mulli of Dhipugaon that consisted of 75 stllements in total, have already been burned to cinders, informed ward chair Sher Bahadur Bohara. The fire also gutted all the food stock stored inside the houses.

Due to the lack of adequate water, the fire is still waging and has gone out of control, added Bohara. The locals are attempting to douse the fire by removing the rooftop and pouring earth over the fire, he added.

The settlement in the Dhipugaun is used by the people in the region to stay for a period of six months during the rainy season to avoid excessive snowfall and bitter cold in the upper regions. Due to the same reason, the settlements house a large amount of food stock.

Meanwhile, ward chair Bohara has appealed to all stakeholders for relief for the fire survivors.

Chief District Officer of Jumla Bhupendra Thapa said that a team of police has been sent to the site soon after the incident was reported.

The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
