4 killed, 10 injured in Baglung jeep plunge

BAGLUNG: Four persons died and 10 others sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling on fell below the road in Jaimini Municipality-8 of Baglung district on Tuesday.

According to Police Constable Himal Paudel at Baglung District Police Office, the jeep (Dha 1 Ja 791) was ferrying students, school staff and parents of Janakalyan Secondary School after its annual day when it plunged some 300 metres below in Nepaneko Bhir at 6:25 pm yesterday.

Police have identified the deceased as accountant Tulsi Rana Pun (30), students Alina Pun (14), Priyanka Pun (19), and Jyoti Pun (13) of the school.

Among the injured, Dhana Shrish, Bishna Shrish, Sangam Shrish and Samjhana Pun are undergoing treatment at Pokhara-based Manipal Teaching Hospital while others injured -- Krishna Pun, Sabina Thapa, Nandakali Shrish, Nirmala Pun, and Puja Pun -- are being treated at Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital.

There were 30 passengers in the jeep at the time of the incident, informed police.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and detained its driver for further investigation, said police.
