400 govt employees deprived of salary

Gaighat/Ramechhap, Oct 12

Around 400 employees of district-level government offices that were scrapped with implementation of federalism have been deprived of salary for the past three months in Udaypur.

Government staffers of the offices located in Udaypur are having a hard time for want of salary.

Around 136 employees of District Forest Office alone have not received their salaries for the past three months.

Staffers of the then Agriculture Development Office, Soil-Conservation Irrigation Division, Drinking Water and Sanitation Office, and District Hospital, among others, have been left without work after their offices were scrapped.

As the government has not released their salaries, they are in confusion as to where and how they would receive their salaries from.

Livestock Office Chief Ram Narayan Mandal said that he was yet to be assigned new responsibility. The office has 15 employees.

“We neither have any work nor have we received our salaries,” Mandal said.

Mandal bemoaned that his pleas to the authorities concerned had fallen on its deaf ears. “We just attend the office without work and pay,” he said.

Information Officer Chandramani Poudel at District Treasury Comptroller Office, Udaypur, said more than 400 employees were deprived of their salaries as the centre had not released budget for the purpose.

Meanwhile, staffers of the district-based government offices in Ramechhap that were scrapped with implementation of federalism too have not received salary for the past three months.

The government’s failure to manage employees has deprived them of their remuneration. Division Drinking Office technician Mahendra Pradhan said staffers from District Technician Office, Division Drinking Water Office and Division Irrigation Office were facing a hard time.

“The government has done us injustice. Without salary, how will we celebrate Dashain and Tihar festivals?” Pradhan wondered.
