41 youths arrested

Police arrested as many as 41 youths while they were heading towards Dolakha from Kathmandu for their alleged intention to obstruct local level elections at Bhimeshwor Municipality in Dolakha yesterday night.

The youths, who came in a bus and on motorcycles, were arrested at around 10:00 pm yesterday.

According to the District Police Office, Dolakha, the police team has seized one bus, one jeep, and nine motorcycles from the youths.

The arrested were from Kathmandu, Sunsari, Lalitpur and Jhapa, among other districts, said police. The youths’ political allegiance is yet to be ascertained, said police.

Police said that security had been tightened in the district after the death of CPN-UML cadre Kul Bahadur Tamang of Jugu, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality during a clash between CPN-UML and CPN-MC cadres on Tuesday.

Locals suspect that the youths might have been deployed to avenge Tamang’s death.
