Households and hospital in Besisahar reeling under water shortage

LAMJUNG: Lack of water has affected the regular health services in Lamjung District Hospital in Besisahar which sees 250-300 patient-visits daily.

“The laboratories and operation theatres are facing difficulties in cleaning equipment of daily usage,” Administration Head at the hospital, Yuba Raj Devkota said, “Lack of water has added up to the hassles in daily operations.”

Apart from the District Hospital, 2595 households in Besisahar have been suffering due to irregular supply of water.

According to Kalpana Danai of Besisahar, locals are bound to scout nearby water source and wells to fetch drinking water.

“The water sources have dried up and we see no ways to immediately resolve the issue,” Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer’s Committee Chair, Krishna Lal Pradhan said, “Increasing demand for water and drying up of sources has led to the current situation.”

In this backdrop, a drinking water project worth 280 million with 70 percent government’ s investment and rest from local consumers is on the pipeline. It has been said that the project would take at least a year to complete.
